Art + Culture:

Arts & Culture

The amendment will provide an estimated $50 million each year for arts, arts education, history and cultural heritage. Funding is expected to be appropriated by the Legislature and Governor to the Minnesota State Arts Board and arts organizations and activities across the state. Until now there has been no direct state funding for arts education. Money from this new pool may also fund Minnesota’s historical societies.

In addition to the articles on this site, you can find more information about arts funding and programs by visiting the Minnesota State Arts Board or Minnesota Citizens for the Arts.

Janet:
Hi.  How does one go about applying for these funds?  My idea involves reviving a tradional native american art on an Ojibwe reservation in N. MN, which ultimately should become a marketable product for them.  Any and all suggestions welcome.  Thank you.

Joan:
There have been  noises that Gov. Pawlenty is talking about disbanding the Minn. Arts Board and turning it into a non-profit.
What does this do to the dispersal of these funds to the arts and cultural communities in Minnesota? Who will do that? Can a private organization determine where state moneys go? I doubt it.
The Arts Board has a solid track and should be retained.
